South Carolina has made an intriguing late addition to its 2023 roster.

Drew Tuazama, a transfer defensive end from UAB, announced his commitment to the Gamecocks in a Facebook post on Friday, according to The State. Tuazama recently graduated from UAB, which allowed him to enter the portal outside of the designated transfer windows for undergraduates.

Last season, Tuazama appeared in all 13 games for the Blazers. He posted 33 total tackles, including a team-high 5 sacks. Tuazama also recorded 3 pass breakups and 3 quarterback hurries.

Tuazama began his career at Syracuse in 2019. With the Orange, Tuazama played in 7 games over 2 seasons.

The Blazers considered Tuazama a redshirt junior in 2022, not applying his COVID-19 waiver. Tuazama has multiple years of eligibility remaining, having used a redshirt in 2019 and the 2020 season not counting against his 4 playing seasons.

Tuazama did not enter the portal until August. Mississippi State, Colorado, Indiana and Troy also expressed interest.

We’ll see how fast he can acclimate in Columbia and get on the field for the Gamecocks.
