Will Muschamp and the South Carolina Gamecocks fell to 1-2 with a 47-23 loss at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.

While the Gamecocks racked up 459 yards of total offense, they surrendered 571. Averaging 8.9 yards per play, Alabama was led by junior quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s five touchdown passes.

“When you get in the red zone against that team, you have to score touchdowns,” Muschamp said.

Redshirt junior Parker White kicked three field goals on the day from 44, 28 and 48-yards. On the final series of the first half, Muschamp elected to forgo another field goal attempt in favor of going for six. The Gamecocks were stopped and Alabama took a 24-10 lead into the break.

Making his first career start, freshman quarterback Ryan Hilinski completed 36-57 passes for 324 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

“I’m really proud of Ryan,” Muschamp stated.

“We’re going to keep fighting. That’s who we are.”

Looking to bounce back, South Carolina will hit the road and travel to Columbia, Missouri for a meeting with the Tigers.

“We have a good football team. We’re 1-2. We’re not where we want to be, but we have to pull together and get back to work tomorrow.”

WACH FOX (Columbia, South Carolina) provided the comments from Muschamp:
