DraftKings Iowa Sportsbook Mobile Registration Now In Effect
Although Iowa launched its online sports betting platform back in the summer of 2019, those who wished to engage in online wagering had to complete the registration process at a retail casino.
Whereas bettors in other legal sports betting markets could register online from work, home, or, well, anywhere within state limits, those in Iowa were forced to travel to retail casino locations. In the case of DraftKings Iowa, bettors had to visit one of the state’s three Wild Rose Casino locations in Emmitsburg, Clinton or Jefferson.
This particular in-person requirement was restrictive to the initial growth of the Iowa market. Understandably, some prospective bettors were deterred from signing up because of travel. That was particularly true in 2020 when COVID-19 caused significant disruptions. Iowa was not the only state to initially enforce the in-person requirement. Illinois enacted a similar restriction, although the in-person requirement there was lifted, at least for the time being, because of COVID-19 concerns.
Iowa’s in-person registration requirement extended through Dec. 31, 2020 and expires with the arrival of 2021. Therefore, those looking to register for DraftKings Iowa Sportsbook can now do so–without the travel.
