James Franklin and the No. 7 Penn State Nittany Lions lost 1 of the ugliest games in college football history on Saturday in State College, falling to unranked Illinois 20-18 in 9 (yes, really, 9) overtimes.

Franklin is a coach who consistently hears his name mentioned in coaching rumors. Lately, he has been tied to both the USC and LSU openings.

Well, let’s just say many fans think he may have been distracted by those rumors as Penn State was struggling its way to a brutal home loss.

Here’s some of the reaction from Twitter surrounding Franklin and the job rumors:

We’ll see what the future holds for Franklin. For now, though, Penn State still has to play Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State before the end of the regular season. Yikes.
