Mario Cristobal ripped on Twitter for bizarre game management decisions vs. Texas A&M
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes came to College Station on Saturday night with a chance to establish themselves as a College Football Playoff contender.
Instead, the No. 13 Hurricanes looked off all night long against an elite Texas A&M defense. But, Cristobal did himself no favors with his conservative (and, frankly, scared) play calling.
Miami repeatedly settled for field goals in the red zone, and with 3:20 left in the fourth quarter, trailing 17-9 and with the ball near midfield, Cristobal called for a punt.
As you can see below, fans and media members (and particularly Oregon supporters) were quick to point out on social media that bizarre and conservative game management is par for the course for Cristobal:
You wanted Mario Cristobal, Miami?
Well, that comes with Mario Cristobal Game Management:
It isn't good. Actually, it's the opposite of that. It's horrible.
And no – you can't uninstall it.

Can’t lie watching this Mario Cristobal disaster class as an Oregon fan is incredibly satisfying

Mario Cristobal is one of the worst gameday coaches in the country. His teams win in spite of him on gameday when they win. https://t.co/Oc9IsdDlyW

Welcome to the Mario Cristobal experience, @CanesFootball. We tried to warn you.

You’ve got to give Mario Cristobal credit, the man is unapologetically committed to producing this exact performance in every big game his teams play

Mario Cristobal in big games gonna Mario Cristobal in big games.

Miami punted.
I’ll admit, I didn’t watch a ton of Oregon football, but has Mario Cristobal always been spineless?

Good news is if Mario Cristobal can get this team down the field and kick another field goal, they can cover.

Mario Cristobal might be a good coach but I sure didn't see that tonight, lot of head-scratching decisions and weird showing by Miami from start to finish.

Dan Lanning went for a 4th and 1 on his own 30 today, up 10.

Can Miami take the next step as a program? Perhaps, but Cristobal is going to have to be bold at some point. That didn’t show at all in College Station. We’ll see if any lessons were learned going forward.
