Published:
The NCAA Baseball Tournament and College World Series got underway Saturday, June 18. The double elimination series is taking place at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska. Eight teams made it to the tournament in quest of a national title, but just two teams remain — Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. The College World Series Finals started Monday, June 28, as the Commodores and Bulldogs will play the best-of-3 series for the national title. The Commodores won game one 8-2, and the Bulldogs won game two 13-2. It sets up a rubber match for the national title.
How does the College World Series work? With respect to division I, the NCAA baseball tournament starts as a 64-team tournament that is setup with 16 four-team double-elimination mini brackets. One team moves on from each mini bracket which leads us to 16 teams in the super regionals. Each super regional is a three game series between two teams. Then, eight teams move on to the actual part of the tournament known as the College World Series. The eight teams in the College World Series are positioned into two four-team brackets in which double elimination occurs. The winner of each four-team bracket moves on to the championship series. The two contenders in the championship series play a three game series to determine the NCAA baseball national champion.
