PHOTOS: Sad FSU fans were inconsolable after losing to Georgia Tech

There is always optimism surrounding the first game under a new head coach. Florida State fans were optimistic for the start of the Mike Norvell era in Tallahassee on Saturday. The former Memphis head coach seemingly received a favorable draw for his first game as the head Seminole, with FSU hosting Georgia Tech. Geoff Collins’ Yellow Jackets went 3-9 last season and were picked to finish last out of 15 teams in the ACC this year. Collins’ squad was also without Florida transfer Antonneous Clayton, a former Rivals 5-star recruit, and highly-touted freshman running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

Norvell’s Noles, however, looked a lot like the Seminoles under Willie Taggart. Georgia Tech overcame a 10-0 deficit, two blocked field goals, a blocked extra point and multiple interceptions from true freshman quarterback Jeff Simms, a Florida State pledge until the coaching change, to pull off a 16-13 comeback upset victory in Tallahassee. A $100 bet on Georgia Tech to win outright won around $400 at most sportsbooks.

The reduced-capacity Doak Campbell Stadium was predictably sad about the outcome:

In addition to widely-shared sad fan photos, FSU was on the receiving end of Twitter trolling and zingers:

Florida State has now lost four consecutive season-openers.
