Scott Van Pelt was scheduled to host “SportsCenter” from ESPN’s Washington, D.C. studio following the College Football Playoff National Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia.
But the popular personality will be off the air at least one night after experiencing what he called on Twitter “a bit of a medical scare”.
“(My) heart got a little out of whack (SVT) which was pretty spooky but fine now,” he tweeted.
Van Pelt mentioned that he had to be checked into Suburban Hospital in Maryland for further evaluation and was later discharged, and is currently resting at home.
SVT stands for supraventricular tachycardia, which “causes episodes of a pounding heartbeat (palpitations) that begin and end abruptly”, according to the Mayo Clinic website.
Van Pelt has been with ESPN for over 20 years. He has hosted the midnight edition of “SportsCenter” since 2015.
Bummed to miss one of my favorite shows of the year, but happy to be ok and home after a bit of a medical scare this afternoon. Thanks to @SuburbanHosp @CJPVFD for looking after me.
