Stephen A. Smith has heard the chatter that he could be interested in running for President of the United States. However, the longtime ESPN personality said in a recent interview with TMZ Sports that the idea of him running for office came from other people and not himself.

“No. That’s other people entertaining it, I’m just doing my job every damn day,” said Smith about the idea of running for office. “I ain’t trying to run for office or anything like that, but I love talking politics, I love talking about things not just sports. And if the American people want to sit up there and say ‘Hey yo, we want Stephen A. to run,’ I’m not going to be mad at that.”

In 2022, Smith admitted to Paul Finebaum that he does not have any desire to be a politician. However, he also said he would consider running for office if he was approached and told there was a chance he could win the election. Earlier this month, Smith said that he felt he could beat any of the current democratic contenders to earn the 2028 nomination to run.

Regardless of those comments, Smith believes he’s unqualified and doesn’t have a desire to run. But if people want to entertain the thought, that’s up to them.

“I don’t know what the hell they’re thinking. I ain’t qualified,” Smith said. “If they want to entertain it, you go ahead and entertain it.”
