Braden Montgomery, Texas A&M star outfielder, exits Game 1 of Super Regional with injury
Braden Montgomery suffered what appeared to be a serious injury in Game 1 of the Bryan-College Station Super Regional on Saturday afternoon.
Montgomery appeared to hurt his ankle on a play at the plate. There was not a major colission, but he slid awkwardly into home as he was tagged out at the plate. Montgomery needed significant assistance to leave the field, but was able to depart with his left leg in an air cast.
Here’s video of the play:

This is a devastating injury for Texas A&M’s title hopes if it keeps Montgomery out through the weekend. Montgomery has been one of the nation’s best players this season and is a potential top-5 pick in this summer’s MLB Draft.
Montgomery entered the day hitting .322 with 27 home runs and had an OPS of 1.185.
The exact severity of Montgomery’s injury is unclear, but head coach Jim Schlossnagle told the ESPN broadcast that he’s “banged up pretty good” during a mid-game interview.
Texas A&M is playing for its second trip to the College World Series in the last 3 years. The Aggies have reached Omaha 7 times previously in program history, but have never won the national championship.
Regardless of the outcome of Game 1, Texas A&M and Oregon will meet again at 6:30 p.m. CT on Sunday night for Game 2.
