The death of a demolition worker in 2013 during renovation of Texas A&M’s Kyle Field has resulted in his relatives being awarded $53 million.

While working for Lindamood Demolition Inc. of Irving in December 2013, Angel Garcia died when he fell four stories after a portion of concrete fell onto the equipment he was operating.

A negligence lawsuit was subsequently filed on behalf of Garcia’s mother and two children. On Wednesday, Houston jurors decided on the damages.

Lindamood Demolition Inc. was found to be 25 percent liable. However, two construction companies who formed a joint venture partnership to provide management services for the project, were given 75 percent liability.

Those two companies are Oklahoma-based Manhattan Construction Co. and Houston-based Vaughn Construction Co., or Manhattan-Vaughn, as per the partnership.

Manhattan-Vaughn JVP attorney Wade Quinn said on Thursday that an appeal was planned.
