Texas A&M fans got to experience College GameDay in Week 1 as they prepare for a ranked matchup against Notre Dame.

One of the staples of GameDay is Pat McAfee’s Kicking Contest. Lucky fans from the crowd are selected to come to the set and attempt a field goal for a cash prize. In College Station, a freshman named Lucas got the call.

On his first kick, Lucas came up well short. However, due to the crowd encouraging a 2nd try, McAfee agreed to allow it and increased the prize to $50,000.

“That was the best ball you’ll ever hit in your life and that thing was nowhere close,” McAfee joked to the freshman.

Well, unfortunately for McAfee, the kid absolutely nailed his 2nd attempt.

The crowd swarmed the freshman and broke out in a “Lucas” chant, while Rece Davis praised the kid’s kicking form. The kick EASILY cleared and likely would’ve been good from 10 yards further back.

Lucas is now the proud owner of a $50,000 check on behalf of Pat McAfee. That’s a life-changing amount of money for a college freshman, so props to Lucas!

Meanwhile, the Aggies are gearing up to take on the Fighting Irish. Entering the game, the Aggies are 3-point favorites over the No. 7 Fighting Irish per DraftKings Sportsbook.

Whoever wins this matchup will earn an early resume-boosting victory. The Aggies would love to get a victory over a top-10 team at home in their new head coach’s first game with the team.
