Texas A&M had one of the tightest quarterback battles around the country this fall, with Haynes King, who won the job last year before suffering a leg injury in Week 2, squaring off against LSU transfer Max Johnson.

On Saturday, the Aggies and coach Jimbo Fisher made a decision for Week 1, when they’ll play host to Sam Houston to get the 2022 campaign started.

As you can see below, King has been named the starter, beating out Johnson and freshman Conner Weigman:

In 2 games last season, King completed 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 300 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He also ran 6 times for 24 yards.

The Aggies are expected to make a run for the College Football Playoff this fall. Can King unlock his team’s potential and have a great year? We’ll find out starting Saturday.
