Recent reports indicate Tennessee is narrowing its coaching search and could have a replacement for Butch Jones in place as soon as Sunday.

Who will that new coach be? That remains to be seen, but there is plenty of speculation about who will take over for the Vols.

On SportsCenter on Sunday morning, ESPN’s Chris Low discussed the opening, saying he thinks there are three major candidates to land the position — Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen, Ohio State DC Greg Schiano and Iowa State’s Matt Campbell, and he mentioned the Vols will likely name a new head coach “in the next 48 hours.”

For the Vols, a hire like Schiano probably wouldn’t do much to inspire confidence in the fan base, but if AD John Currie thinks the team can win with Schiano, then he’ll do what he thinks is best.

Out of those three, Mullen seems to be the one that Vol Nation would get behind the most, simply based on the body of work Mullen has put together in Starkville.

No decision has been made official as of yet, though, so we’ll keep waiting to see who Tennessee hires to be its next head coach.
