Heath Shuler was on hand at Neyland Stadium as Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker set a program record of 19 straight games with a passing touchdown.
Hooker tied Shuler’s mark of 18 a week ago during a win against Alabama. On Saturday, he broke the record against FCS UT Martin as part of a 52-point 1st half for the Volunteers against the Skyhawks.
Shuler, a member of the Vols from 1991-93 and the 1993 SEC Player of the Year before being selected 3rd overall in the 1994 NFL Draft, has been impressed with what he’s seen from Hooker.
“It’s incredible. I’m so proud of Hendon, the way he’s performed this season, the leadership role that he’s taken upon this team and the way he goes out and performs every single week. It’s just been amazing,” he told WBIR-TV’s Karthik Venkataraman during halftime. “So, I’m so happy for Hendon. Records are there to be broken, and I’m so glad it was him.”
