Tennessee’s coach met with the media on Monday to preview the upcoming road matchup with Auburn this weekend and break down the latest with his Volunteer program as Jeremy Pruitt’s team rested last weekend during the team’s bye week.
Unfortunately for the Vols, the big story on Monday was the reported injury to freshman defensive back, Trevon Flowers. According to Volquest (who first reported the news), Tennessee’s Rival affiliate, Flowers was injured in practice last week.
That news was confirmed on Monday by Pruitt.
“We lost a guy the other day, Trevon Flowers, he dove to intercept a ball. Broke his collarbone but he’s had surgery, and he’ll be back in a few weeks,” Pruitt said on Monday. “It’s unfortunate for him, he had a really few weeks and had a good week in practice, but we will be without him moving forward.”
That’s a tough injury that likely will cost Flowers his true freshman season, although Pruitt appears confident that his defensive back will return at some point this season.
Tennessee’s official site lists Flower as participating in five games, if accurate, meaning he would not be able to redshirt if he is lost for the season. Flowers made one start on the season and had nine tackles, and one pass break up this season.
