Ryan McGee channeled the Neyland Stadium goal posts during a segment on ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Saturday morning ahead of the Tennessee at Alabama game.

“How many games had I seen from right here, the best view on Rocky Top,” McGee said. “Wins. Losses. Downs. Ups. Even ups that became downs.

McGee, a Tennessee alumnus, re-lived the rollercoaster of emotions for Tennessee faithful in the last year, as the Vols snapped a 15-game losing streak to Alabama, and took down the goal posts and sent them into the Tennessee River. They were later fished out by a fraternity, but the memories remain.

“We won,” McGee said. “The rest of that night is a cigar smoked clouded blur. I’d always wanted to see what it looked like outside of the stadium. Then there it was, the Tennessee River! I was so close. Then, oh, wait, I was too close. Hey! Stop, I don’t know how to swim. Y’all know I’m made of steel right?”

Even though Google Maps still shows the goal posts in the river, pieces of the goal posts reside at a frat with the Vols on dry land.

“Home sweet home, to me.”
