College football fans troll Texas after Longhorns receive first-place vote in preseason Coaches Poll

Several have heard the phrase “Texas is back.” That hasn’t entirely been the case for the Longhorns football program over recent years, but one coach seems to be under the impression that it very much could be the case for 2022.
When the latest Preseason Coaches Poll was released, the usual suspects received first-place votes. The top-5, in order, were Alabama (54 first-place votes), Ohio State (5 first-place votes), Georgia (6 first-place votes), Clemson and Notre Dame.
Outside of Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia, the Longhorns oddly received one first-place vote, finishing at No. 18 overall, which put them directly ahead of Wake Forest and just behind Miami. And, of course, Twitter had plenty to say about that.

Look, I’m all for Texas being better this season…but how did they land a first-place vote?

Texas finished out last season with a 5-7 overall record and has finished the past three seasons with 7, 8 and 10 wins, respectively. It will be interesting to see how things shake out with the team as it prepares to move into the SEC in 2025 along with the Oklahoma Sooners.
