Texas added to its defensive ranks from the transfer portal on Saturday, adding a Big Ten defensive lineman and linebacker out of the SEC.

DL Cole Brevard, who started his college career at Penn State but has spent the last 3 seasons with Purdue, and Brad Spence, who had played in every game for Arkansas over the last 2 seasons, both entered the transfer portal after the conclusion of their respective seasons. They will now head to Texas, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer.

Brevard was a former 3-star recruit who signed with Penn State out of the class of 2020 but didn’t play that season. In 2021, he made 1 appearance before redshirting. The Indianapolis-area native then transferred closer to home, joining Purdue and totaling 38 tackles and 9.0 TFLs in three seasons.

Spence, also a former 3-star recruit, signed with Arkansas out of the class of 2023 and saw the field immediately, playing in all 12 games as a true freshman while making 16 tackles, 2.0 TFLs, and a pick-6. In 2024, he totaled 54 tackles and 4.5 sacks.

Both should provide a big boost to the Longhorns defense in 2025. This year’s Longhorns, though, face Clemson in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals on Dec. 21.
