Clark Lea and Vanderbilt did the unthinkable in Week 6, defeating No. 1 Alabama 40-35 in Nashville.

It’s a signature win for the fourth-year Commodores head coach, and then some.

“Too much to express right now. I’m proud of our team. I believe in our team. I believe in what we’re building. There’s more for us than this. This isn’t a finish point but it’s a hell of an arrival,” Lea told the SEC Network’s Alyssa Lang amid a crowd of Vandy fans on the FirstBank Stadium field.

The Commodores were a double-digit underdog to the Crimson Tide and hadn’t beaten them in 12 tries. Vandy had lost 60 straight games against teams ranked in the top 5 and were winless against No. 1-ranked teams.

That all changed on Saturday as the Commodores pulled off one of the biggest upsets in college footbal history. They nearly toppled Missouri in Week 5 but finished the job against the Tide.

Needless to say, Lea and Commodores fans will revel in every bit of this one.

“This is a dream right here and for the next 12 hours, I’m going to enjoy the dream,” Lea said.
