As Vanderbilt gets ready for a best-of-three series against Mississippi State in the College World Series Finals, all eyes are on the Commodores’ pair of star pitchers.
In his Sunday press conference, Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin would not confirm Jack Leiter as the Monday night starter. Leiter pitched last week on Monday against NC State, striking out 15 over eight innings in a 1-0 loss.
“I have not clarified that and I never said that,” Corbin told reporters. “We’ll see how he feels today and then we’ll determine who is going to pitch. But we need time today. These kids have thrown as of late, and we’ll just take care of the health of the kids first before we determine who is going to start.”
When asked about Kumar Rocker making an appearance in the finals, Corbin had a much more brief answer.
Q. How confident are you Kumar can come back on short rest and how does his off-season training set him up to be able to do this?
COACH TIM CORBIN: Confident.
Rocker pitched six innings in Vanderbilt’s Friday win over NC State.
We’ll see how Corbin handles the pitching situation on Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.
