Vanderbilt fans carry goalposts down Broadway after upset win over Alabama
Vanderbilt upset Alabama, tore down the goalposts inside FirstBank Stadium, and then did the funniest thing ever.
Fans carried the goalposts from the stadium all the way down Broadway and then threw them into the Cumberland River. And they had a police escort for it! Reporters in Nashville documented the entire journey.

Prior to Saturday’s game, Vanderbilt was 0-10 all-time against AP No. 1 teams and 0-60 against teams ranked inside the top 5. The Commodores’ became just the second unranked team since 2009 to defeat the top-ranked team in the country.
Alabama’s defense was repeatedly gashed in the second half against Georgia, and it could not produce stops at any point on Saturday against Vanderbilt. The ‘Dores scored on 6 of their 8 possessions before a 7-play drive that killed off the clock at the end of the game.
“There’s more for us than this,” coach Clark Lea told SEC Network on the field after the game. “This isn’t a finish point but it’s a hell of an arrival.”
If there’s more to come, better stock up on some spare goalposts, Vandy.
