Vanderbilt’s Chris McElvain and Christian Little tossed a combined no-hitter Friday night at Kentucky. The Commodores defeated the Wildcats 10-0 in the series opener.

McElvain, the starter, went 7 innings, striking out 9 on 104 pitches. Little covered the final 2 frames, posting 4 punchouts.

It’s the program’s first combined no-hitter since 2003 when Jensen Lewis, Nick Pilkington, John Scott and Matt Buschmann did not allow a hit against Western Kentucky.

Right fielder Spencer Jones led the way offensively with a 3 RBI night, going 2-for-5 at the plate.

Tim Corbin’s Vandy Boys improved to 27-10 overall and 8-8 in SEC play. The Dores and Cats will meet at 11 a.m. CT/noon ET Saturday for Game 2 of the series.
